The United MileagePlus program offers great rewards for members and credit card holders. United Airlines saw an opportunity to partner with NetSpend and offer a MileagePlus Debit Card for customers that do not qualify for its credit card. This concept would position United Airlines as the first airline to offer flyers with credit issues a way to earn miles and join the exclusive member club.
Role: UX Designer, Visual Designer for UI, Branding & Debit Card
The Problem: Design a fresh visual brand identity for the United Airlines Debit Card and its Mileage Plus program, and align its customer acquisition flow to seamlessly integrate with that of Netspend's card products.
Objective: Establish all optimal user entry points, identify all possible user scenarios, design a landing page acquisition flow to integrate with NetSpend's acquisition flow, design a brand identity, the physical debit card, and supporting marketing materials
Process:
- Understand all business constraints and the MileagePlus account verification backend process
- Research competitor's mileage rewards sign up flows
- Review current sign-up flow for United Airlines Mileage Plus
- Create user journeys for each scenario
- Mock-up low fidelity mobile wireframes to review with United Airlines and NetSpend stakeholders and respective engineering teams
- Create visual brand concepts for the "GO" debit card
- Apply brand styling to high fidelity mockups for launch and the first qualitative test
